Happy St. Patricks Week! We have busily been re-stocking our nursery and lo and behold
we found the Leprechauns stash of gold!
If you love the cheery, warm feeling from bright yellow and golden blooms and foliage, then have we got a list for you! Below, you will find our favorite "pot of gold" plants. Check them out and add some sunshine to your yard, even on the cloudiest day.
Sungold Cypress - Chamaecyparis pisifera filifera ‘Sungold’
A compact, mounding shrub with consistent golden yellow new foliage. An excellent accent plant, eventually growing 5 to 6 feet tall and 7 to 8 feet wide. Evergreen
Golden Sword Yucca - Yucca filamentosa ‘Golden Sword’
Boldly striped sword-like leaves topped by tall spikes of fragrant ivory white blooms. Forms dramatic clumps with age. Use to create contrasting textures in your landscape. Deer resistant. Reaching 3 to 4 feet tall and feet wide. When in flower it can reach flower spikes 4 to 6 feet. Evergreen
Golden Ruby Barberry - Berberis thunbergii ‘Gouzam’
A dwarf barberry with striking coral orange foliage, accented with a golden margin. An eye catching color contrast. Its compact habit makes it a great addition to your landscape or containers. 2 feet tall and 2 feet wide. A low maintenance plant. Deciduous
Golden Spirit Smoke bush - Cotinus congeries ‘Ancot’ P. P 13082
Spectacular foliage emerges brilliant gold and then coral orange and red in fall. Smoke-like plums of whitish-pink flowers in the summer. Foliage will not scorch in the sun. 8 feet tall and 6 feet wide. Deciduous
Lynwood Gold Forsythia - Forsythia ‘Lynwood Gold’ (pictured above)
A great shrub that blooms in the early spring with bright, beautiful yellow flowers. It grows 6 to 8 feet tall and gets to be about 6 feet wide. Sun to part shade. Deciduous
Goldflame Spiraea - Spiraea x bumalda ‘Goldflame’ (left)
Bronzy new growth in spring matures to soft yellow-green fall foliage is a coppery orange. A great contrast to green foliaged plants. It grows to be about 3 to 4 feet tall and wide. Easy care. Deciduous
Gold Mound Spiraea - Spiraea japonica ‘Gold Mound’
Vibrant golden spring foliage, accentuated by clusters of pink flowers cools to a yellowish green in summer than a rich, yellow - orange in fall. 2 to 3 feet tall and 4 feet wide. Easy care. Deciduous
Autumn Gold Ginkgo - Ginkgo biloba ‘Autumn Gold’ (right)
A superb shade tree selection. It is a non-fruiting strain. Unique fan shaped green foliage turns golden yellow in the fall. 35 to 50 feet tall and wide. Deer resistant. Deciduous
Emerald n Gold Euonymus - Euonymus ‘Emerald n Gold’
A colorful evergreen shrub providing bright green foliage with a gold edge all year long. A dense mounding shrub. Grows 2 to 3 feet tall and wide. Evergreen
Fall Gold Raspberry
Named for its yellow-gold fruit that is extremely sweet. The upright thorny shrub provides an abundance of magnificent gold berries from mid-summer thru early fall. Excellent for fresh eating, making jams, jellies
Gold Coast Holly - Ilex aquifolium ‘Monvila’
A small evergreen shrub with beautiful dark green leaves edged bright golden yellow. A male form having no berries, but make a great pollinizer for other English type hollies. Deer resistant. Grows to be 4 to 6 feet tall and wide.
Gold Heart Bleeding Heart - Dicentra ‘Gold Heart’
Vivid golden foliage on large open plants can be used for contrast and to lighten darker shade gardens. Traditional heart shaped pink flowers in the spring. Grows to be about 2 to 3 feet tall and wide. Deciduous
Gold Pillar Barberry - Berberis thunbergii “Maria’ (left)
Bright golden foliage and red new growth makes this a stand out in your landscape. Upright grower. Its burn resistant yellow foliage turns bright orange red in fall. Deer resistant. Grows 3 to 4 feet tall and 18 to 24 inches wide. Deciduous
Golden Bamboo - Phyllostachys aurea
Dense branches of dark green evergreen foliage on stiff erect polished stems - brilliant yellow in color . A running bamboo so be sure to use bamboo barrier when planting or plant in a container. 15 to 20 feet tall. Deer resistant.
Golden Chain Tree - Laburnum x waterier ‘Vossi’ (right)
Spectacular color from long , drooping clusters of fragrant bright yellow flowers. Beautiful green foliage and bark. Deer resistant. Attracts hummingbirds. 20 feet tall and 15 feet wide. Decidous
Golden Deodar Cedar - Cedrus deodara ‘Aurea’
Bold, pyramidal form with attractive golden-yellow new needles, maturing to a golden green. Graceful, arching branches make a great contrast in form, texture and color in the landscape 25 to 35 feet tall and 15 feet wide. Evergreen
Golden Variegated Sweet Flag - Acorus gramneus ‘Ogon’
Excellent for brightening the edge of ponds or water gardens. Rich, golden yellow blades provide colorful accents. An evergreen, clumping grass. Grows 10 inches tall and 6 to 8 inches wide
Wilma Goldcrest Cypress - Cupressus microfarad ‘Wilma Goldcrest’ (left)
